Cape Town International has one central terminal building with the domestic and international arrivals halls side by side. The car rental desks are in the same building, and at busy times, especially when several long-haul flights land together in the morning, their queues can be long. With Mylz you never stand in one.
Before you fly
Book online, add your flight number and complete online verification (licence, ID or passport and a selfie). We confirm your host's name and contact number the day before.
When you land
We track your flight. After baggage claim, your host is waiting in the arrivals hall you exit into, holding a Mylz Rentals sign.
At the car
A short walk takes you to the parkade, where the car is waiting, cleaned and fuelled or charged. We walk round it together and record its condition with photos.
On your way
Sign the digital contract on your phone, pair your phone with the car and set your destination. A typical handover takes about ten minutes.
The terminal desks work well for many travellers, but you queue, sign paper forms, then walk to a separate rental-car area to find a car from a category. With us, the paperwork is done online before you travel, you meet one person who knows your booking, and the car you see on the listing is the model you get. Flagship cars marked "Guaranteed model" are exactly that car.
It also suits arrivals that don't go to plan: tired children, a late-night landing, a client meeting to get to. Your host can help load luggage, fit a child seat you have booked and talk you through the route out of the airport.
Add your flight number when you book and we follow it in real time. If you land late, your host adjusts to your actual arrival with no extra charge for the delay. If a flight is cancelled or you are rebooked onto a later one, message us and we move the handover. If the new time falls outside our handover hours, the after-hours fee applies only if we have agreed the late handover with you.
Returning is just as simple. Message your host when you are about 30 minutes out and follow the signs to the parkade we confirm with you. Your host meets you, checks the car with you and sends the return report by email. Allow 15 minutes on top of your normal airport time.
Most airport customers choose one of three cars. The Mercedes-Benz C-Class (R1,499 a day) is the business traveller's choice. The BMW X5 (R2,899 a day) takes four adults and their luggage in comfort. The Mercedes-Benz V-Class (R2,799 a day) seats seven with room for large suitcases, so it works for families and golf groups.
Travelling with lots of luggage or heading for gravel roads? The 7-seat Toyota Fortuner 4x4 is on our SUV hire page. Larger groups should see people carrier hire.

The airport sits about 20 km east of the city centre, next to the N2. Here is what to expect on the most common first drives:
| Destination | Distance | Typical drive | Route |
|---|---|---|---|
| City Bowl / V&A Waterfront | about 20 km | 20–30 min off-peak | N2 west |
| Camps Bay / Sea Point | about 30 km | 35–45 min | N2, then over Kloof Nek or via Green Point |
| Century City / Blouberg | 20–35 km | 25–40 min | N2 then M5, or the R300 and N1 |
| Stellenbosch | about 35 km | 35–40 min | N2 east, then the R310 or R44 |
| Franschhoek | about 70 km | around 1 hour | N2, R310 over Helshoogte Pass, then R45 |
| Hermanus | about 115 km | around 1 hr 30 min | N2 over Sir Lowry's Pass, then R43 |
Avoid the N2 into town between about 06:30 and 09:00 on weekdays and the outbound N2 from 16:00, when the drive can easily double. Stick to the N2 and other main routes, especially after dark, and follow your navigation app's suggested routes rather than shortcuts. Heading to the Winelands first? See car hire in Stellenbosch.
