On the road

Driving in Cape Town: the rules that matter

  • No e-tolls in the Western Cape

Cape Town has no e-tolls. Chapman's Peak Drive is a toll road, paid at the plaza by card or cash, and the Huguenot Tunnel on the N1 is tolled too.

  • Traffic fines

Fines issued during your rental are yours. We redirect them to you as the driver (under the Criminal Procedure Act or AARTO, where applicable) and charge an admin fee per fine.

  • Drive on the left

South Africa drives on the left. Carry your licence (and IDP, if needed) whenever you drive; traffic officers may ask to see it.
